    REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2007-2009

Message from the President and Secretary General

Celebrating the past, shaping the future

The publication of this report of activities coincides with the 125th anniversary year of UITP. Indeed, 2010 will be a festive year for the Association and all its members who will have several opportunities to celebrate their anniversary together.

UITP, which at first brought together tramway and local railway companies, has increased its importance and influence over time and is now the worldwide network of the public transport sector. The Association has gone from strength to strength, both as the promoter of innovative and forward-looking solutions for the public transport sector and as the advocate of the sector in political matters as well as its local, regional and international voice. To strengthen its international presence, the Association has opened several regional and liaison offices over the years. It has also set up specific commissions and committees to closely monitor the development of all modes of public transport as well as related topics.

Despite the fact that this report of activities only illustrates a small part of UITP’s long history since its foundation in 1885, we wanted to commemorate our 125th anniversary. That is why the report contains some sections that will enable you to travel back in time and relive some memorable UITP moments. No surprise, this long-term success and history has only been made possible thanks to the unwavering commitment of our members and partners.
